Nightmare Before Christmas Motto-Dinner

Am 2. Advent habe ich mir einen großen Traum erfüllt und endlich ein Motto-Dinner zu Tim Burtons "Nightmare Before Christmas" zubereitet. Ich hatte schon lange vor, irgendein Motto-Dinner zu einem oder mehreren seiner Stop Motion Filme zu machen, aber nie die Zeit dazu gefunden. Da die Adventszeit so gut zu "Nightmare Before Christmas" passt, habe ich die Gelegenheit ergriffen und es endlich umgesetzt. 

Geschmacklich ist das Ganze etwas orientalisch gehalten und die Rezepte gibt es in den nächsten Tagen auf meinem Kochblog. Ich verlinke sie hier dann aber nochmal nachträglich zu jedem Teil des Dinners einzeln.

On 2. Advent, I made a big dream come true and finally prepared a motto-dinner about Tim Burtons "Nightmare Before Christmas". For a long time, I planned to make a motto-dinner about one or more of his stop motion movies, but I've never found time for doing that. Because the Advent season matches "Nightmare Before Christmas" so good, I took the opportunity and finally made it.

The taste is somewhat oriental and the recipes will be on my cooking-blog within the next days. I will link them later seperately for every single part of the dinner.

Mr. Whiskers

Seit kurzem habe ich das Modellieren für mich entdeckt. Also habe ich mir direkt ein bisschen Fimo, Pinsel und Farben besorgt und losgelegt. Eigentlich wollte ich einen Frankenweenie-Kettenanhänger mit Sparkys Kopf machen, doch sozusagen zum Einspielen habe ich mich an Mr. Whiskers versucht. Das gelang recht gut und schließlich war ich mit ihm so weit, dass ich Sparky erstmal hinten anstehen ließ und den Kater fertigmachte. Als er dann im Ofen war, sah ich zwar, was ich noch alles hätte besser machen können, aber für einen ersten Versuch bin ich doch ziemlich zufrieden. Also habe ich ihn am nächsten Tag mit Acryl bemalt und hier ist er, der Kater mit den skurrilen Vorhersagen ;)

Since a short time, I discovered modellising for me. So, I directly bought some polymer clay, brushes and colours and started with ist. Actually, I intended to shape a Frankenweenie-pendant with Sparky's head, but for sort of bringing me into modellising first, I dabbled in shaping Mr. Whiskers. This succeeded pretty good and finally I was so far ahead with it, that Sparky had to drop behind for this time and I finished the cat. When it was in the oven, I saw what I could have done better indeed, but for a first try, I'm pretty happy. So I painted it the next day with acrylic and here it is, the cat with the strange previsions ;)

Steamy Kraken

Mal wieder eine kleine Bastelarbeit von mir, diesmal Kettenanhänger: Schwarze Kraken aus Fimo, der eine mit Zahnrad-Augen, der andere mit Uhrwerk-Gehirn. 

And again, a little crafting-work from me, this time pendants: Black kraken out of fimo, one with gear-eyes, the other one with clockwork-brain.

Ich weiß schon, "just put some gears on it and call it steampunk". Aber da ich mich um Moden und diese ganzen szeneinternen Vorschriften und Abgrenzungen und Glaubwürdigkeitskontrollen so wenig wie möglich scheren möchte, sondern einfach nur basteln will, was mir gefällt, benutze ich Zahnräder und Steampunk-Optik, soviel ich will ;-P

Well, I know, "just put some gears on it and call it steampunk". But because I want to care the less as possible of fashions, all this undergroundscene-intern regulations, borders and authenticity-controls, but just want to craft what I like to, I use gears and steampunk-style as often I want to ;-P

Elefanten-Torte

In dieser Woche kam mein Freund von seiner Südafrika-Reise zurück und als Willkommensgeschenk wollte ich ihm eine Torte backen. Da er Erdnussbutter liebt, entschied ich mich für eine Erdnussbutter-Schoko-Torte. Es ist die zweite Torte, die ich jemals gemacht habe, und im Gegensatz zur ersten funktionierte hier alles wie geplant. Damit das ganze wenigstens optisch zu Südafrika passte, habe ich einen Elefantenkopf aus Marzipan modelliert und ihn als Dekoration auf die Torte gelegt. Ich habe ihn nicht eingefärbt, damit alles in braun-beigen Farbtönen gehalten blieb. Die Torte schmeckt sehr lecker, ist aber auch unglaublich mächtig, mehr als ein kleines Stück schafft man wirklich nicht =D

This week, my boyfriend returned from his South Africa tour and as welcome-back-gift, I wanted to bake a  fancy cake (is this the correct vocable?) for him. It's the second  fancy cake I ever made and in contrast to the first one, everything went according to the plan. Because it should fit to South Africa leastwise optically, I shaped an elephant with almond paste and applied it to the top of the fancy cake. I didn't dyed it for everything being in brown-fawn shades. The fancy cake is very delicious, but also unbelievable massive, you really can't eat more than a little piece of it =D
